A Bibliography of the White Rabbit Press

A Bibliography of the White Rabbit Press

Alastair Johnston

First Edition, 1985. 93 pages.

Book measures 6.25 x 9.25 inches. Grey cloth. The White Rabbit Press was established in 1957 by Joe Dunn, at the suggestion of Jack Spicer. Dunn produced 10 titles by mimeo, including works by Denise Levertov, Robert Duncan, Richard Brautigan, Charles Olson and Helen Adam, with covers by the artist Jess. In 1962 the imprint was revived by Graham Mackintosh, again at Spicer’s urging, and he went on to become one of the best-known printers in California (later producing books for Black Sparrow Press and many other imprints). He produced 53 more White Rabbit titles through 1981. The bibliography documents books, broadsides, and ephemera and tells the story of Buzz Gallery and the Natoma Tap-dance Society with which Mackintosh was intimately involved.
