Volume 1, recognition and formation of signs, covers elements of signs (lines, forms, etc.), five basic sign forms, variation and combination, and various other formal considerations. Vol. 2 treats linguistic signs (pictograms, letters, etc.): their derivations, history, the many ways of varying the form of letters, letters as monograms, numbers, line and text. The last volume covers signs, symbols, "Signete" (printers' devices, logos, trademarks, etc.) and "Signale." Each volume has a bibliography for that volume. Includes a type written letter on Stempel letterhead laid in.
