Hikari to Kage (Light and Shadow)

Hikari to Kage (Light and Shadow)

Daido Moriyama

First Edition, 1982. 216 pages.

Book measures 8.75 x 11.75 inches. First Printing. Softcover in thick photo-illustrated dust jacket with obi. Text in Japanese. This volume is often considered to be the first major publication by Moriyama since his classic book Farewell Photography from 1972. The work consists of full bleed, horizontal images, with the gutter through the center of each image. A beautifully printed book with deep blacks. As Moriyama dealt with various personal issues through the 1970s which slowed down his output, the appearance of  Hikari to Kage in 1982 rewarded those who followed Moriyama's progress from the late 60s forward with a definitive presentation of his photographic language.

A very sharp copy. Edges of wrappers show only the faintest signs of wear. Spine is square, binding is tight. Original obi shows light rubbing. A Near Fine copy of this scarce volume.
