Light: An Explication - Masterpieces of Japanese Photography
Tampei Photography Club
First Edition, 2006. Book measures 9 x 11.25 inches. Part of the “Masterpieces of Japanese Photography” series, this version of “Hikari” (Light: An Explication) by the Tampei Photography Club is a faithful reproduction of the 1940 photobook of the same name. It was originally published to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Osaka-based photography club, featuring works by 58 artists, including Terushichi Hirai, Koro Honjo, Toru Kono, Kaneyoshi Tabuchi, Nakaji Yasui, and Bizan Ueda, selected from Tampei Photography Club exhibitions held between 1935–1939. This volume perfectly captures the imaginative photography and the avant-garde sensibilities of the group, and includes 111 plates. Also included is a booklet with a critical text by Kotaro Iizawa and an essay providing further information and context by Ryuichi Kaneko in Japanese and in English translation. Published in a limited edition of 400 copies.
