Hajime Sawatari’s Nadia is an iconic Japanese photobook centered on Italian model Nadia Galli, one of the photographer’s most important and enduring muses. The series began as a year-long project for Camera Mainichi in the early 1970s, with Sawatari photographing Nadia during trips through Italy, Karuizawa, and other intimate settings. Rather than functioning as a conventional fashion portfolio, the photographs move between staged imagery and personal documentary, creating a world where fiction, memory, travel, and real experience constantly overlap. Includes a text by Shoji Yamagishi in Japanese and English translation, and a facsimile of letters written by Nadia in Japanese only.
