Sent A Letter - Signed

Dayanita Singh

First Edition, 2007. 126 pages. Seven softcover accordion fold books in stiff wrappers measuring 3.75 x 5.5 inches, housed in a handmade cloth box.

Dayanita Singh has been making small photo journals of her travels in India for some years now. Each book is made with a certain person in mind, either one she has made the journey with or one that was on her mind on her travels. She makes two handmade copies, one remains with her (she calls this her kitchen museum) and the other with the friend it was made for. A diary with coded images of a time shared. Sent A Letter contains seven of these diaries that are of trips through India, including one of Nony Singh’s photographs of her daughter growing up. The titles of the seven volumes are as follows: Allahabad, Bombay, Calcutta, Devigarh, Varanasi, Padmanabhapuram, Nony, Singh.

Signed by Singh on the side of the cloth box: “Dayanita Singh ICP” (International Center of Photography). All seven books are in Fine condition. The handmade box shows light signs of handling, but also appears to have a handmade quality by design, and not a look of mass produced box. Very Scarce, especially signed by the artist.
