First Editions published in 1978 & 1981. Two volumes. The first published by David R. Godine in 1978. Includes Rothstein’s essay ‘Victor Hammer: Artist and Craftsman’ & ‘The Kolbsheim Chapel’ by Hammer (excerpts from A Chapel Built, Liturgical Arts, May, 1944) and includes color plates. Second title published by The Anvil Press in 1981. Included essays by Rudolf Koch and Ulrich Middeldorf. This volume covers mezzotints, engravings & woodcuts, Inscriptions & symbols, Uncial type faces (text by Hermann Zapf), and a bibliography. Both volumes are printed in Dante type at the Stamperia Valdonega in Verona, Italy. Volume two states it was designed by Martino Mardersteig. Volume 2 is #171 of 550 copies. Edition size of Godine volume is not stated, but assumed to be 500 copies.

Both copies are Fine in orange cloth. Slipcase to Volume one is in matching orange cloth and is in Very Good condition showing one small faint stain to top spine and along top edge. Slipcase to volume 2 is cardboard and is VG+ showing light fading.
